Good morning! We’re delighted to share that we co-led a $4.5M seed round for Singularity Energy. Marc Tarpenning, who’s joining the board, announced our investment:
“[Singularity has] developed the most accurate tools to transparently track carbon through the grid network, and APIs to enable utilities and energy consumers to take action to reduce their carbon emissions. We are excited to help build this type of intelligence and see the different products and uses that evolve from their customers, along with the amount of carbon that will never be emitted because of their efforts.”
This news falls into step with two of our niche theses: Andrew Parker’s API-First: Legos for Business and Stephen Wemple’s Catalytic Climate Companies.
We also co-led an $8M seed round for Guide, a powerful tool in today’s intense war for talent. On joining the board, Andrew Parker writes:
“From the very first outreach email through to the final offer letter, a candidate is evaluating a potential employer the same way that an employer is evaluating a candidate. It’s a two-way street, and savvy employers understand that.”
Portfolio news
We’re proud to celebrate this one-of-a-kind mix of accomplishments:
As part of a $32M climate pledge, Shopify is buying forward-looking Climate Action Reserve-certified carbon offsets from DroneSeed’s largest offset project to date, which will replant 300 acres of forest.
Nana’s quest to make the trades cool again was featured on ABC News and Fortt Knox.
Gencove was used in dog genomics research to analyze the DNA of thousands of dogs. Pet owners might be surprised to learn the truth about breed-related stereotypes.
Last but not least, we were overjoyed to be together with our portfolio founders at our 2022 Founder Summit.
Until next time,
The team at Spero Ventures
